Cervical Spinal Stenosis Overview:
- Spinal stenosis is defined as narrowing of the spinal canal resulting in compression of spinal cord and/or nerves.
- This can be caused by a bulging disk or degenerative disk disease, hypertrophy or degenerative enlargement of the facet joints, listhesis or movement of one vertebral body over another, hypertrophy and/or calcification of intraspinal ligaments.
- Signs of cervical stenosis resluts in radiculopathy, myelopathy or both and includes numbness in upper and/or lower extremities, weakness in upper and/or lower extremities, spastic gait and imbalance, abnormality of reflexes, muscle wasting, and at the end stages sphincter disturbances.
