Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) - Case 2

 

History & Physical

  • 67-year-old gentleman who presented with decreased mentation and cognition, with difficulty reading and speaking which in a short time changed to complete inability to speak or communicate.

  • This is  most compatible with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).

MRI scan of the patient's brain showed a large intrinsic brain tumor in left (dominant) hemisphere pressing on speech area (Broca’s region).

    Volumetric map of tumor together with neurophysiological cortical mapping assisted in safe and subtotal resection of the tumor while safeguarding vital neurovascular structures.

     


     
    Post-op Course

    • Patient was immediately able to speak and communicate again after the operation and was discharged from the hospital in good health and with no postoperative complications.

    • He underwent adjuvant treatment for remaining tumor.
