Case Presentation:

Meningioma - Case 10

History & Physical

  • 59-year-old man who had underwent Gamma Knife treatment of an asymptomatic meningioma at a different institution three years ago. This tumor was found incidentally, and the patient had no neurological deficit at the time.

  • He presented to us with progressive difficulty of gait and balance leading to inability to ambulate independently.

Imaging

Case 10 Image 1
MRI scan of the patient’s brain showed a dural-based tumor in the right frontoparietal region with local mass effect on the brain. This was the tumor that had been treated with Gamma Knife 3 years prior.

Surgical Procedure

  • He underwent surgical resection of this tumor using brain mapping, stereotactic and computer navigation, and intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring.

Post-op Imaging

Case 10 Image 2

Post-op MRI shows complete resection of the tumor with no injury to surrounding neurovascular structures.

Post-op Course

  • The patient did well postoperatively and his gait and balance had improved significantly since the operation. He was able to walk independently using a cane.
